Nurture Nappies is a specialist in modern + organic reusable nappies. We are an Australian family owned company whose inspiration is to re-educate and to make changing nappies simple and fuss free. Choose from a comprehensive range of modern and organic nappies made from bamboo, hemp, organic cotton and high performance fibres.
There is a revolution in the world of nappies..ditch throwayism and join us!

Re-useable nappies are rapidly becoming accepted as a convenient and superior alternative to disposables. Gone are the days of soaking, bleaching, folding, pins and plastic pants. Modern cloth nappies are easy to use, reliable, less costly, more environmentally responsible and an awful lot more adorable than disposable nappies. They are also healthier for our babies.

A leading Australian advocate of re-useable nappies is Jayne Miller and her company The Nurtured Child. Jayne's business Nurture Nappies is leading the revolution, retailing a huge range of both Australian and imported re-useable nappies sourced from both larger commercial manufacturers and mumpreneurs!

Family owned and managed, Nurture Nappies is the daily obsession of Jayne, an environmental scientist with a passion for conscious parenting choices.
Based in far north Queensland, just north of Port Douglas, Jayne, her husband David, and their dedicated team service the needs of families all over Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. The annual growth in turnover is clear evidence that Australians have discovered the benefits of re-useable nappies and the word is spreading fast says Jayne, managing director of The Nurtured Child.

These days re-useable nappies are not just the choice of environmental activists and eco-warriors, they have become the choice of average Australians who care about the environment, their babies' health and their wallets. A discussion of the impacts of nappy choice is revealing. Jayne advises that the environmental impacts of nappies should be considered in terms of a lifecycle assessment of the product.

The greatest impact of disposable nappies occurs during manufacture when enormous amounts of non-renewable resources are used and toxic chemicals are used to bleach the plastics and paper in the nappies.

Following manufacture there is the environmental impact involved in the transport of the nappy and finally its disposal. The millions of nappies dumped in landfill will be a burden our children will bear heavily. Aside from the fact that they take hundreds, if not thousands of years to break down, the human waste they contain contaminates soil and groundwater posing serious health risks to the community.

In the UK where landfill issues are of more immediate urgency, local governments have recognised the benefits of re-useable nappies for reducing waste. Families are encouraged to choose reuseable with subsidies for nappy purchases.
The biggest impact of reusable nappies is in the consumption of water and detergents used to care for nappies. This pales in comparison to overall impact caused by disposable nappies. Further, as parents we can also choose energy and water efficient appliances, and eco friendly detergents to further reduce our baby's eco footprint. Despite claims by disposable nappy manufacturers to the contrary, it is increasingly clear that re-useable nappies are by far a better choice for our environment says Jayne.

Concern for the environment is not the only reason people are choosing re-useable nappies. Modern re-useable nappies offer superior performance without the leaks or 'blow outs' that are common with disposables.

Technologically advanced fabric and design mean that modern cloth nappies are incredibly absorbent but slim fitting, offer breathable leak-proof outer layers and stay-dry linings, and are also quick and easy to care for. They don't require soaking, bleaching or any special treatment at all. A quick pre-rinse and a warm wash with a regular detergent is all you need.

Cloth nappies are undeniably cheaper than disposables. Jayne says when people see the price of a reuseable nappy they think it is high but when you show them a comparison over a two and half year period they realise they can save anything from three thousand dollars for a single child up to ten thousand dollars for a family with three children.

Modern cloth nappies come in many different styles and Nurture Nappies has them all in every colour of the rainbow.
Experts on cloth nappies with first- hand experience and their very own brood of nappy-testers, the Nurture Nappies team can tailor a nappy package to suit the specific needs of any family.
